Setting-poor village
Jessie's parents passed away. Rabbi's brother Mortecai died and he would choose someone to go to America. Villagers begged him to let them go but he chose Jessie. She had her mother's wedding band but forgot it. As she traveled she missed her grandmother dearly. Miss Almond sewed on a heart pocket on her tattered coat.
Jessie met a boy names Lou. His father was a shoemaker and her cousin Kay greeted her when she got off the ship. Jessie sewed for her money and enjoyed living in New York and wrote letters to her grandma. In New York she began school to learn English and eventually sent a ticket home to her grandma to come to America to be with her. Her grandmother gave her the wedding ring and she would marry Lou.
Good moral to this story- always go after what you believe
